I believe that memories are the best souvenir you can get. And some trips are so special, they deserve more than the selfies you can take with your phone. So why not hire a professional photographer that can capture you and your loved one while enjoying your dream holiday? As a wedding and couples photographer, I like nothing more than than telling love stories. Your story, in Venice!

My favorite photo locations in Venice

There are so many locations in Venice that are perfect for couple shoots / engagement shoots, it’s almost impossible to choose. Every district, or sestiere, has it’s own characteristics that make for a unique experience. Maybe you prefer the famous sites likes Saint Mark’s Square with it’s Campanile and view of the gondolas? Or you just love the colorful houses at the island of Burano. If you like a quiet moment for yourselves, you’d probably love the less touristy streets of Cannaregio and Dorsoduro. Below you’ll find a few of my favorite photo spots, that are ideal for a fun and romantic shoot. The map includes a couple more.

  1. Riva degli Schiavoni
This is one of the best locations if you are looking for a typical Venice backdrop. Think lots and lots of gondolas, and a spectaculair view. It can be very crowded, but off season it’s not too bad. Best time for a shoot here is at sunrise.
  2. Piazza San Marco/Saint Mark’s Square
The most famous location in Venice. The San Marco you see today, is actually the third church that was build here. Work began in the eleventh century. The basilica is a perfect backdrop for some timeless Venice pictures.
  3. Campo de l’Abazia in Cannaregio
Quiet and pittoresque square in a quiet sestiere. We can use the campo as a starting point to explore some of Cannaregio. There won’t be as many tourist here as in other parts of the city (but more cats!). Perfect for sunset pictures.
  4. Fondamenta Zattere
The Fondamenta Zattere is the quay on the southside of the main island, in the sestiere Dorsoduro. The views from here are very beautiful. And there are lots of student pubs in the surroudings, if you are craving a Spritz Select.
  5. Scuola Grande di San Rocco
The Scuola Grande di San Rocco is famous for it’s many large paintings by Tintoretto. It’s a good starting point for a stroll in the San Polo district. The Rialto Bridge would make a very Venice backdrop for your shoot, though you’d have to share it with a zillion other tourists.
Take me there!

VENICE TRAVEL TIPS

  1. Spend at least three days in Venice, preferably longer. There is so much to see and do in the city that one or two days will leave you very unsatisfied.
  2. Don’t use a map or follow signs that point you to San Marco/Rialto, just wander around and get lost. Trust me, you’ll see more of Venice and less tourists.
  3. Book an appartement instead of a hotel. Prices are not as high as you might expect, and being able to prepare your own meals (with Venetian products, of course) can save you a lot of money.
  4. Don’t just wander into any restaurant, do your research online. My favorites: La Zucca in Santa Croce and All’Amarone in San Polo.
  5. Use the vaparetto as little as possible. It’s much nicer to just walk from A to B. Unless you’re visiting another island of course.

BONUS TIP: Book a food tour at Your Local in Venice. Giada & Loris are the best!

ANOTHER BONUS TIP: Book a Venice photographer to capture you and your loved one in this magical city. 😉
